Malinda crime reenactment cancelled due to illness

The National Police canceled on Thursday a scheduled reenactment of the embezzlement case involving Citibank senior relationship manager Malinda Dee, as she reportedly fell ill.

Not only could Malinda not attend, but Citibank officials summoned to take part also failed to show up because they were reportedly too tired after attending hearings about the case at the House of Representatives banking commission the two previous evenings.

“Some are not fit enough so we cannot perform the reenactment yet,” National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said Thursday in Jakarta, although he stopped short at describing Malinda's illness.

The police questioned a Citibank head teller on Thursday. They had earlier questioned another head teller.

Malinda, who allegedly stole at least Rp 17 billion (US$2 million) from her clients at the bank, is suspected of having cooperated with Citibank head tellers to commit the fraud.

“We'll see if the [teller recently questioned] followed the standard operating procedures in serving customers. The questioning is not complete yet. Let's just wait,” Anton said, as quoted by kompas.com.
