The prequalification bid for the mass rapid transit (MRT) construction project would be held this month, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said on Thursday.
“[The prequalification bid] will be held in April 2011, according to an earlier target,” Fauzi said at City Hall, adding that the full formal bid would start in July.
“The bid will last a year, and the winner will be named in July 2012,” he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The governor added, nevertheless, that early physical work will be commenced within the first quarter of 2012, while the MRT itself is expected to start operating in November 2016.
The route connecting Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta and the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta will be the premier route served.
“I will also issue several legal documents in the forms of bylaws, decrees and gubernatorial instructions necessary to speed up the MRT project,” Fauzi added.
The first phase of the MRT project will be funded by loans worth about Rp 12 trillion (US$1.38 billion), from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Fauzi said the funding would not be affected by the recent tsunami and nuclear radiation crisis plaguing Japan.
