The growing number of wine lovers in the Jakarta area is certainly good news for vintners.
Wine is not exclusively for tourists or expatriates anymore, as young people are beginning to appreciate the illustrious libation. (By Indah Setiawati, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta)
Your comments:
At the cost of well above Rp 1 million per bottle of basic Bordeaux in Jakarta, who are the drinkers?
Indonesia will never be able to become a nation with a culture of appreciation of wine as long as it is taxed prohibitively.
The people who make for the current “boom” in wine in Indonesia are 90 percent of the type I do not like to be associated with. It’s just another fashion drink. As the market is that way, the party for wine in Indonesia can be over very quickly. As a true wine lover that concerns me.
