Malaysian court rejects appeal of Indonesian sentenced to death

A Malaysian appeals court has rejected the appeal request of an Indonesian sentenced to death by hanging in a drug case.

On Friday the Putrajaya Appeals Court panel of judges led by Dato Clement Skiner rejected the appeal of Muhammad Imron of Aceh, a.k.a Fernandez.
Iron’s attorney, A. Vijayandram, said that judges and prosecutors were sloppy in drafting the indictment.

He said that prosecutors were unable to point out which evidence was found in Imron’s car and which was found in Imron’s home. He merely stated that the evidence seized amounted to 900 grams.

“This is ambiguous,” Vijay said, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.

The judges did not mention the reason for rejecting the appeal, he added.

Imron was arrested by Malaysian authorities in April 2004 while driving in Johor, Malaysia. The police confiscated marijuana from his car and house. He claimed that the marijuana belonged to a friend whom he had just driven back to her home.

Vijay said that he would appeal to a higher court.
