Hundreds passengers stranded, train derailed in C. Java
Hundreds of passengers were stranded at several train stations in Central Java as a Bangunkarta executive-class train serving Jakarta-Jombang (an East Java town) route derailed early Sunday morning.
Two train carriages, Antara reported, derailed near Tegowanu Station in the Central Java town of Grobogan, although no casualties were reported.
“I’ve been waiting since 5 a.m., but the ticket booths still haven’t opened yet, either those for trains heading to the west or the east,” said Sumarni, 40, a passenger at Poncol Station in Semarang wanting to reach the Central Java town of Purwodadi.
Sapto Hartoyo, spokesman of state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia's Semarang office, said the derailed carriages also impacted on four other train services.
