Kediri Police officers told 'OK' to develop singing talent
East Java’s Kediri Police officers have been given the approval to develop singing talents following a Gorontalo Police officer’s sudden rise to fame after posting his lip-syncing rendition of a Bollywood song on YouTube.
Kediri Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. M. H. Ritonga said he guaranteed his officers the freedom to sing, adding police officers had not been given room to develop singing talent, although many of them had it.
Ritonga said he would not confiscate cell phones while they were on duty so they could record themselves as Norman had done.
“I will not ban officers from using cell phones while on duty,” he told tempointeraktif.com on Sunday.
Ritonga even went as far to say he would allow his officers to become professional singers while serving at the police office.
Norman, whose YouTube “Chaiyya Chaiyya” video (originally sung by Bollywood artist Shakrukh Khan) has more than 400,000 hits, was recently even summoned to Jakarta to meet with National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo over his recent popularity.
He has also been offered a record deal and will soon release his own single.
