Govt set to finalize infrastructure master plan for Jakarta

The government is planning to wrap up a master plan for infrastructure in Jakarta by next week, a minister said Wednesday.

“We have agreed to make a master plan based on a decision by the [Coordinating Economic] Minister [Hatta Radjasa] and the actual construction work would be immediately supported by the Public Works Ministry and the Jakarta Governor [Fauzi Bowo],”
Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi said in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara.

He added that the government was planning to synergize various infrastructure projects in the Greater Jakarta area, including the Mass Rapid Transit system, the railway route from Manggarai-South Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta airport and the dry port in Cikarang to be connected with a railway in an integrated transportation context.

“In accordance with a request from President [Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono], the master plan must be finished by next week at the latest,” Freddy said.
He added that details on budgeting and parties to manage the projects would be discussed in the near future.

Freddy said the infrastructure development would involve many state-owned companies, which would, in turn, work with investors.

Until now much of the construction has been held back by a lack of available land, he said.

“For the Manggarai-Soekarno-Hatta airport [railway line], we hope it can be carried out by 2015, and that the land problem can be settled immediately,” Freddy said.
