The government will form a Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which will be based on a presidential regulation, Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Radjasa said on Wednesday.

“There will be an authority that will regulate transportation in Jakarta, in the sense of ‘greater Jakarta’,” he said as quoted by Antara.

Hatta said the presidential regulation was “in the initial draft; it only needs maturing”.

The coordinating meeting on Wednesday in Jakarta between several ministers including Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi also discussed the plan of a circle line railway in Jakarta.

“[The plan] involves the consortium of PT WIKA, DKI, and PT KAI. This will begin this year; the construction should be conducted,” Hatta said, referring to the state-owned construction company, the Jakarta Administration and the state-owned railway company.

Another subject discussed in the meeting was the construction of six toll roads, an airport train in Jakarta and the railway track connecting Pasoso Priok to Jababeka, Bekasi.
