Panda cannot wait for first trial

Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician Panda Nababan says that he is eager to proceed in his first hearing at the corruption court, Wednesday.

“This is the hearing I’ve been looking forward to since being arrested on January 28th 2011,” he said, leading up to the hearing.

Panda, who is also a member of the representative council, said that he wished the trial would start sooner rather than later as he believed the bribery case is “full of conspiracies”.

To ensure that the conspiracies are made known, Panda and his lawyers have requested the Judicial Commission and the National Commission for Human Rights to be present and monitor the trial.

Panda along with fellow PDI-P politicians Engelina Pattiasina, Muhammad Iqbal and Budiningsih will undergo their first hearing regarding a bribery case on Wednesday.

The three are accused of receiving a bribe, in the form of traveler's checks, to vote for Miranda S. Goeltom in an election for the Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor position several years ago.
