PKS remains undecided on new coalition contract

With two days remaining before deadline, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has not reached a decision on whether it will sign the new contract for the joint coalition of parties.

PKS secretary-general Anis Matta said the party was waiting for the decision of the Religious Council, which is the party's most powerful board.

“This is a decision meant for the Religious Council and not the secretary-general. Let the Religious Council decide,” he said late on Tuesday.

However, Anis could not ascertain when the council would discuss the party's stance related to the contract. The party is currently still against the new contract, saying it carries unnecessary changes.

“Some things are missing and an evaluation has not yet been conducted. Suddenly, a draft of the new contract has been made without any evaluation,” he said, as reported by kompas.com.

He added that the PKS would be willing to agree with the new contract if an evaluation of the performance of the joint coalition over the past one-and-a-half years were carried out.

PKS was still waiting for President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to lead the evaluation of the previous coalition agreement, he said.
