Thirteen victims of an alleged suicide bombing at the Az-Dzikra mosque inside the Cirebon Police compound are still undergoing intensive medical treatment at Pelabuhan Hospital.

“The number of victims undergoing treatment at the hospital has dropped from 30 persons to 13. Six are severely injured while the rest sustained lighter wounds,” National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said during a press conference at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Sunday.

He also said Cirebon Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Herukoco would undergo surgery this evening to remove nails, nuts and bolts that were embedded in his skin after the bomb exploded.

He added that the national police could not yet confirm the bomber’s identity. His team is still waiting for the result of a DNA test, which would likely unmask the true identity of the alleged bomber.

A police team had taken blood samples from Abdulkadir (66) and Sri (66), a couple who identified the remains of the alleged suicide bomber as their son, M. Syarif. They said that the profile of the corpse was similar to their son. (fem)
