The police say investigators had strong evidence and witness testimony in hand before they detained a prosecutor implicated in a bribery scandal involving graft convict Gayus H. Tambunan.

“The National Police formally detained Cirus Sinaga [Saturday] night to accommodate the investigation,” National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said in a press conference on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.

Cirus allegedly accept bribes to falsify documents related to prosecutors’ sentencing request for Gayus and to manipulate the former low level tax official’s trial at the Tangerang Distrct Court, which ended with an acquittal.

Another court eventually sentence Gayus to seven years in prison.
