MIMIKA: Students from Timika, Mimika district, Papua, are studying at Surya Institute Karawaci, West Java, to prepare for participation in the provincial and international science olympiad.
Mimika sends three 10th graders to study at Surya Institute for the provincial olympiad held in early June in Papua. They are two students from state senior high school SMA Negeri 1 Timika Theresia Klorida W Ayomi and Handri Takimai, and one student from SMA Advent Timika.
“We are proud that our students are trained at Surya Institute. We hope they can motivate other students to record other high achievements,” the headmaster of Timika senior high school, Matheus Mamo, said as quoted by kompas.com.
This year, Mimika is also sending four elementary students to Surya Institute to prepare for the international science olympiad.
Amungmae and Kamoro Society Development Institution supported sending the elementary students. The institution executive secretary, Emanuel Kemong, said the students were children of native tribes Amungme and Kamoro. — JP
