Police release two Citibank suspects
Police investigators have decided against detaining two new suspects in the Citibank embezzlement case.
After questioning the two on Thursday, the police only obliged them to report back twice a week.
The suspects were subordinates of Citibank senior relationship manager Inong Malinda, also known as Melinda Dee, who was accused of embezzling billions of rupiah from her clients.
"They are not detained. They only have to report twice a week," National Police Spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said on Friday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The suspects, known only as R. and B., work as head tellers at the Citibank branch office at Landmark Jakarta.
"R. and B. allegedly failed to perform the proper procedures in the transfer of customers' money," Boy said, adding that they were accused of money laundering.
The decision against detaining R. and B. leaves Malinda as the only detained suspect, as another suspected teller, Dwi, has also been obliged only to report twice a week.
