Terrorist suspects to appoint defense team

The families of 19 terror suspects arrested by police linked to recent bomb threat across the Greater Jakarta area have appointed a team of attorneys to provide legal assistance.

Achmad Michdan, from the Muslim Defense Team (TPM), said the family of P, the alleged mastermind behind the planned terrorist act, had contacted his team.

“His wife has asked us to assist P. But we asked her to draft a written request letter,” he said Friday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Michdan urged the families of the terrorist suspects to prepare an appeal so that his team could work legally. “We also expect that the police will not intervene the families’ decisions,” he said.

The terror suspects were detained by police in seven different locations. They were accused of involvement in the book bomb terror attacks at the office of the Liberal Islamic Network, the National Narcotics Agency and the book bomb threats targeting public figure Ahmad Dani’s house and Pancasila Youth organization patron Yapto Soelistyo Soerjosomarno’s house.
