Fire guts perfume factory in Tangerang

Fire swamped a perfume factory belonging to PT Ike Jati in Kadu Sirung village, Pegedangan district, Tangerang regency on Saturday.

“Although no fatalities or injuries were reported in the fire, the company may have suffered billions of rupiah in losses in the incident,” Pagedangan police chief Insp. Hafid said.

Police suspected the fire was sparked by a short circuit.

According to Hafid, the Tangerang fire brigade deployed five fire trucks to extinguish the fire. Firefighters spent two hours to put out the flames.

“As of this afternoon, we no do yet have any idea on the source of the fire, as police officers are still on the scene to determine the cause of the fire,” he said, adding that the fire apparently began at about 9 .a.m. while hundreds of workers were inside the factory.

The workers immediately rushed out of the building after the fire broke out, he said.
