A Global TV cameraman arrested for allegedly agreeing to film a
terrorist bomb attack on a church that was thwarted by the police has
revealed during interrogation that he was asked to perform the job by a documentary director, who has also been arrested.
The police identified the cameraman as IF, and the director as P.
“IF
told us that he had been asked by P to cover the bombing just a night
before we managed to find and later defuse the bomb that was planted
near the Tangerang church,” National Police headquarters general
information desk head Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said as quoted by
kompas.com on Saturday.
He said IF and P had been asked by the bombers to record the explosion and then immediately upload it to the Internet.
Several
explosive charges weighing a combined 150 kilograms were found under a
gas mains in front of Christ Cathedral near the Bumi Serpong housing
complex in Tangerang on Thursday.
The police found the bomb after
arresting and interrogating 18 suspected terrorists in several places in
Jakarta and Aceh who are thought to have been behind a suicide bomb
attack on a police mosque in Cirebon last week, and a spate of mail bomb
attacks a month earlier.
So far more than 20 people have been arrested and questioned in connection with the bomb found on Thursday.
