Education minister Muhammad Nuh said that 22 regions in Indonesia had not distributed School Operational Aid funds (BOS) during the first quarter of this year.
“They have their own reasons. However, the reasons are sometimes unreasonable,” the minister said, as quoted by kontan.co.id.
He said that some regions, such as Papua, North Sumatra, NTT, North Celebes, East and Central Borneo have yet to distribute the BOS funds. “They will be put into the black-listed category,” he said.
BOS total funds this year amounted to Rp 16 trillion (US$1.8 billion). The government will disburse Rp 4 trillion each quarter.
Nuh said that measures would be taken against regional administrations that have yet to distribute the BOS funds, with sanctions ranging from reprimands to financial sanctions.
“The financial sanction will be activated starting 2012. However, we promise that the financial sanctions will not disadvantage the society,” he said.
