VP, Minister, to attend regional autonomy anniversary

Vice President Boediono and Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi are slated to attend the 15th anniversary of regional autonomy today in Bogor.

The commemorations, held in the office of the Bogor city administration, are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m..

The tagline for the event is "In the spirit of regional autonomy, we increase the performance of regional administration in public service and regional innovation."

Regional autonomy is considered a recent phenomenon in Indonesian governance after decades of centralized rule imposed by the New Order regime.

The practice has been criticized for various reasons, including the mushrooming of autonomous regions that have been deemed ineffective in policies and performance.
