KPK arrests Wafid on SEA games bribery allegations

The secretary to the sports and youth affairs minister, Wafid Muharam, was arrested and is currently being questioned on allegations of bribery by PT Duta Graha Indah, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Johan Budi said Monday.

“[The allegation is] that the company wanted Wafid, who holds the key role in the SEA games preparations, to appoint it to build the accommodation facility,” Johan said Tuesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Wafid is alleged to have played a significant role in the graft, since his office was responsible for all of the preparations, Johan said.

All construction plans had to be approved by him, he added.

KPK investigators found large amounts of money in envelopes while searching Wafid’s office yesterday, which would be used as evidence in the case, he said.
