Arresting NII members must follow the book: Police

Jakarta Police says that even though there have been countless reports of Indonesia Islamic State (NII) activists employing aggressive recruitment strategies and measures, police could not make any arrests without receiving complaints from members of the public.

“We need people's to file reports for us to make arrests and crack down [on NII],” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharuddin Djafar said Thursday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Citing a information from the police intelligence unit, police have identified pockets of activity of the outlawed NII movement in several areas on the outskirts of Jakarta, including Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

“However, we can't name the hotspots specifically, since we have yet to receive any comprehensive reports,” he said.

Baharuddin said police would also monitor locations suspected of being meeting points for NII members, including student dormitories and campuses.
