JAMBI: Increased rainfall the past three days has caused flooding in four districts in Jambi, leaving 200 houses inundated and 400 hectares of rice fields affected due to the overflowing Batanghari River.
The four districts were Limun, Pelawan, Cermin Nan Gedang and Sorolangun.
The floods also paralyzed the Batang Asai-Sarolangun road, with water reaching 1 meter high.
“We lost the crop. Although we harvested the rice, we left it on the field only to be swept away by the floods,” Limun resident Muhammad S said.
A local social agency said it had dropped relief aid packages in the area.
“We have set up a public kitchen and tents for shelter. More aid will be coming after we get data about what is needed and about the victims,” Iskandar, who heads the Sarolangun social agency, said. — JP
