The Indonesian Footwear Association (Apresindo) is optimistic that Indonesia will set a new record in shoe exports, worth US$3 billion this year thanks to rapid growth in demand.
Apresindo secretary-general Binsar Marpaung said Thursday that Indonesia booked $2.5 billion in footwear exports last year.
“This year, we are confident that we can make it to $3 billion,” Binsar said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Indonesia is one of the major footwear producers in Asia, along with China and Vietnam.
Binsar said the international market was still promising for Indonesia's footwear industries, not to mention demand from home.
“Keep in mind that we have a huge population. If everyone buys two pairs of shoes twice a year, then we should produce loads of shoes,” he said.
