JAKARTA: Indonesian Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (AIMI) chair Mia Sutanto says the government should inform society about the risks of infant formula
AKARTA: Indonesian Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (AIMI) chair Mia Sutanto says the government should inform society about the risks of infant formula.
Her remarks were made in response to the results of a research by the Bogor Institute of Agriculture on infant formula. The research revealed that several brands of formula contained Enterobacter sakazakii bacteria.
The government should eliminate parents’ doubts as to whether the infant formula they feed babies is sterile or not, Mia said.
“The government should also tell the public that infant formula is not 100 percent sterile,” Mia said Wednesday.
She added that the bacteria found in formula milk could also come from parents who serve formula milk incorrectly.
The government should promote breast milk as the safest food for babies under 12 months old, she added. — JP
