Police are working with intelligence officers to collect information and other evidence of an alleged link between the Al Zaytun Islamic boarding school and the Indonesian Islamic State (NII) movement, the National Intelligence Agency says.
“We are in the midst of collecting information regarding the link. We need more time to sort things out,” Agency chief Gen (ret) Sutanto said Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
It has long been rumored that Al Zaytun Islamic boarding school in Indramayu, West Java, often boasted as the biggest Islamic boarding school in Indonesia, has received funds from various illegal sources, including from the NII movement.
Many have said the school was used by NII to promote its ideology and recruit followers.
