Renowned pianist and composer Ananda Sukarlan is set to hold a concert dedicated to collector-cum-curator Oei Hong Djien in Magelang, Central Java, on Saturday.
The internationally-acclaimed pianist will play some never-before heard pieces in a concert titled Rapsodia Nusantara 2, a 12-minutes repertoire which will include two Indonesian folk songs Tokecang and Cublak-Cublak Suweng, online news portal tempointeraktif.com reports.
The concert's steering committee coordinator, Jakin Laksana Hidayat, said only 350 tickets –100 VIP and 250 festival class tickets – were being sold.
“The price for a VIP ticket is Rp 50,000 (US$5.85) while a festival class ticket costs Rp 25,000,” he said on Thursday.
The concert program says Ananda will play pieces titled Furiously Funky, Nocturne for a Somnambulist, and An Alien's Waltz from his Alicia's first piano book compilation.
Ananda, a graduate of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, will also play arrangements from his Tembang Puitik Ananda Sukarlan, such as Terbaring and Dalam Sakit, musical arrangements of two poems of the same titles by noted poet Sapardi Djoko Damono.
Ananda resides with his wife and daughter in Spain. His last concert in Magelang was in late December 2008.
