The Independent Journalist's Alliance (AJI) Makassar branch is calling on journalists to build a stronger and more independent media labor union.
AJI Makassar labor union division coordinator Andry Mardian acknowledged that up to this date many media workers, including in Makassar, were still underpaid, adding that well paid journalists were often over-exploited.
"Not to mention in Makassar, media companies are still against labor unions. They even carry out union busting," Mardian said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Sunday.
AJI Makassar demands that the government better protect journalists. It also demanded the government take measures on media houses that have underpaid their journalists.
As for media companies, AJI demanded them to provide their journalists with proper salaries, insurance and adequate training.(awd)
