AKARTA: National Education Minister Muhammad Nuh and Balai Pustaka, a state-owned publisher and printing company, launched Monday a digital book for students called Sabak BUBO, to coincide with the celebration of National Education Day.
Sabak BUBO, a development from Balai Pustaka, is a program that can be applied to tablet computers, Android-based mobile phones and desktop computers. The application consists of primary and secondary school subjects.
“With this program, students won’t be left behind in technology. Moreover, students’ shoulders won’t hurt anymore because of heavy books,” Nuh said, showing Sabak BUBO on a tablet.
Balai Pustaka president director, Zaim Uchrowi, hoped that all students would use Sabak BUBO in the next three to five years.
“It doesn’t mean that printed books will vanish. The printed books will support digital books,” Zaim said. — JP
