House of Representatives Speaker Marzuki Alie says he gained fruitful insights during his visit to Iraq.
These insights were gained during series of intensive meetings with Iraqi administration officials.
“We have agreed to tighten our relations in the fields of legislative, judicial, administrative, culture and oil and gas. Thus it is expected that we are going to see more fruitful results in future,” Marzuki said in a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
The statement also says Marzuki and Iraq House Speaker Usama Abdul Aziz Nujayfi signed several MoUs regarding the interests of both countries.
During his travel to Iraq, Marzuki also delivered a speech before members of the Iraq parliament.
Marzuki’s decision to travel to Iraq had initially been showered with protests from the public and NGOs, based on suspicions the trip was being made for recreational purposes using taxpayer's money.
