Several main roads in Jakarta will be temporarily blocked to motorists, as ASEAN Summit guests make their way to and from their hotels and the summit venue at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
“The roads will be closed to make way for convoys of [vehicles] of the heads of state. The convoys will run two minutes apart for each head of state so the roads must remain blocked during that period,” Police Traffic Division chief Sr. Comr. Royke Lumowa said.
Police will block the roads between the hotel where the VIPs are staying and the venue from 8 a.m. The police will also restrict access to these roads at 3 p.m, 7 p.m and 9:30 p.m.
“We will open and close these roads alternately at those times because those are the break periods in which the [heads of state] will be traveling between their hotels and the venue,” Royke added.
The hotels the state guests will stay at are the Hyatt, the Hotel Indonesia-Kempinski, Four Seasons,
Shangri-la Hotel and JW Marriot.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes on Saturday, particularly if they are heading toward Harmoni, the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, Kebon Sirih, Sarinah, Dukuh Atas, Kuningan, Tomang, Slipi and CSW.
Police will not completely block the roads on Sunday, but several convoys of state heads will still pass these roads.
