Democrat Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum said he supported the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) current investigation into graft allegations against the secretary to the Youth and Sports Minister, a case that may implicate the party executive.
He said the party would provide necessary assistance to KPK investigators carrying their duties.
“If he is proven guilty later, then we have an internal mechanism to cope this problem. But please bear in mind that the KPK’s ultimate mission is seeking the truth and not getting trapped in conspiracy scenarios,” Urbaningrum said on Saturday as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.
Democratic Party general treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin’s name came into the spotlight after being repeatedly mentioned by one of the suspects, Mindo Rosa Manullang.
Manullang said she was told by Nazaruddin to accompany Muhammad El Idris, another suspect in the case, to meet the secretary to the Youth and Sports Minister, Wafid Muharram.
The KPK currently has detained three people in relation to the graft case, the secretary to the Youth and Sports State Minister, Wafid Muharram, Mindo Rosa Manullang and Muhammad El Idris, the general manager of PT Duta Graha Indah, a general contractor company that allegedly gave Rp 3.2 billion (US$374,400) in bribe money to Muharram for his alleged “contribution” to “escort” the company in winning the building construction tender for a SEA GAMES XXVI project.
