The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) speaker Taufik Kiemas and Sarjono Kartosuwiryo, son of the late founder of the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII) movement, Sekar Maridjan Kartosuwiryo, will speak before NII followers in Serang, Banten, today.
“I will read the MoU between my father with the country’s founding fathers so they will comprehend everything related with this issue,” Sarjono said on Sunday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
However, Sarjono didn’t want to reveal the content of the MoU, saying that he would disclose it later, to the NII activists.
The meeting was part of Taufik’s project aimed at helping the government reduce radicalism. It was expected that, after the NII activists discussed radicalism directly with their most respected figure’s son, they would once again embrace Pancasila as the country’s sole ideology.
The Serang meeting would be an entry point. After that, Taufik and Sarjono planned to visit more regions to discuss the same topics.
