The Foreign Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia have decided to prolong their stay in Indonesia to conduct a trilateral meeting between the two countries and Indonesia over the recent border clashes.

Thailand, Cambodia and the rest of the of the 10 ASEAN member nations are scheduled to wrap up the two-day ASEAN summit in Jakarta on Sunday.

However, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia have agreed to engage in a meeting that delayed the departure of the Thai and Cambodian foreign ministers.

"It is rare that we can have such a trilateral meeting, in which one side is Cambodia, the other Thailand and in the middle is the President of Indonesia, the ASEAN chairman. The foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand will stay another day to work with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia," Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Sunday in a press conference in Jakarta.

Indonesia, he continued, also suggested sending observation teams to the conflicting nations.

"Once Thailand signs the acceptance of the Terms of Reference [regarding the observation teams] then the meeting on the general borders committee can start immediately," Hun said.
