3 elementary students hit by car, one dead in Mataram

Three elementary school students who were about to sit their final exams were hit by a car on Tuesday morning in Mambalan hamlet, Gunungsari, West Lombok.

One of the victims, Denda Gina Histiani, 12, died instantly, while the two others, Andre, 12, and Surya, 13, sustained severe injuries.

The accident angered local residents, who mobbed attacked the vehicle and set it on fire.

The accident took place in front of the students’ school, SDN 1 Mambalan.

“The residents were angry after the driver attempted to run off,” Mambalan village chief Raden Muhammad Rais said.

Residents found the car left 2.5 kilometers from the scene of the collision.

The driver surrendered himself at the Gunungsari Police office, nearby.

Denda, the only daughter of couple Datu Ahmad Sadani and Baiq Suryani, was in the sixth grade.

Tuesday is the first day of the final exams for state elementary schools.
