The Prosecutors Commission and the Attorney General’s Office will sign an agreement to expand the commission’s oversight of prosecutors, an official said on Thursday.
The memorandum of understanding to be signed on May 19 would give the commission more authority to investigate allegations of misconduct by AGO prosecutors, commission chairman Halius Hosen said.
The commission would reserve the right to order further investigation, or even take over such investigations, he said following a discussion on the final draft of the agreement.
Halius said the commission received 10 cases alleging prosecutorial misconduct over the last two months.
“One of the suspected cases is a narcotic cases involving suspect Said Ikhsan in Medan. We've reported the case to the AGO's supervisory division,” Halius said.
The commission would take over the case if the AGO fails to respond within three months, he said. (fem).
