Magelang residents prepare for Vesak

Residents of four villages around the Borobudur and Mendut temples in Magelang, Central Java, are preparing accommodations for Buddhists expected to flock to the temples during the upcoming celebrations of Vesak next Tuesday.

“We are preparing accommodations because hotels and guest houses around the temples are normally full on days before Vesak Day,” Borobudur village head Rujiyanto said on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.

He said villagers in the area had been offering accommodations for such events for 10 years now, and that they were managed by Borobudur temple manager, PT Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur and the local Culture and Tourism Agency.

“The price for a homestay-type chamber is Rp 100.000 (US$11.60)  per day on average, while the more luxurious ones are above Rp 150.000,” Mendut subdistrict head Zubari Sutanto said.
