Magnitude-6.5 quake rocks Papua New Guinea

An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit Papua New Guinea on Monday morning, with the possibility of a tsunami to follow, a report says.

The epicenter of the quake was 120 kilometers west of Bougainville Island at a depth of 43 kilometers below sea level.

“To date there have been no reports of victims or damage caused by the quake,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which issued the report, said Monday in a statement quoted by tribunnews.com.
