The central board of the Democratic Party has announced plans to transfer several lawmakers to different commissions at the House of Representatives, a party official says.
Among those to be transferred is Muhammad Nazaruddin, who was recently alleged to have been involved in graft.
“This is a routine rotation. The rotation is not related to Nazaruddin recently being accused of involvement in graft. In fact, we have been planning this move since last year," Democratic Party corruption eradication chief Didi Irawady said Monday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Didi added that the party believed the move was necessary "after considering feedback".
Nazaruddin was transferred from his current position at the House law commission to the Commission VII overseeing energy and mineral resources.
Besides Nazaruddin, another democrat lawmaker, Vena Melinda, is to be transferred to the security commission.
Nazaruddin recently emerged in media when he was mentioned by graft suspect Mindo Rosalina Manulang in a preliminary questioning session. Rosa initially stated that she was ordered by Nazaruddin to accompany Muhammad El Idris, another suspect, to pay a Rp 3.2 billion bribe to the secretary of Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Wafid Muharram. But then Rosalina later retracted the testimony that related Nazaruddin with the case.
