Tangerang prosecutor Dwi Seno Wijanarko, a suspect in an extortion case, will soon face trial in the newly established Banten Corruption Court. His case will be the first tried there since the 2009 Anti-Corruption Law ordered the establishment of local corruption courts in 33 provinces within two years of its enactment.
He will face trial for extortion in the Banten Corruption Court in the next two weeks,” Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesperson Johan Budi told The Jakarta Post over the phone on Wednesday.
Before the enactment of the new law, all corruption defendants were brought to the sole Corruption Court, which was in Jakarta.
Johan said the new Banten court was ready to try corruption defendants, including Seno, and the prosecution would be designated to KPK prosecutors.
He added that Seno had been transferred from his cell at the Cipinang detention center to the Serang detention center on Wednesday.
Seno, who allegedly extorted Bank Rakyat Indonesia employee Agus Suharto in relation to a fraud case he was handling, was recently caught receiving Rp 50 million (US$5,850) from Agus on the side of a road in Bintaro, Tangerang.
