A resident of Central Jakarta died Thursday while attempting to cross the tracks at Gambir, when he was hit by train serving the Kota-Tanah Abang route.

The victim, Tomi, 45, died from severe head injuries at the scene, Jakarta Police reported Thursday.

During the incident the train had dragged Tomi 50 meters along the tracks, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar said.

Eyewitnesses said that station guards had warned Tomi not cross the railway tracks but he had ignored them.

Gambir Police has taken the body to Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital for an autopsy.
