The hardline Islamic organization Jamaah Anshorut Tauhid (JAT) has been linked to many terror attacks but none of the government institutions, including the National Police, have spoken firmly on disbanding the organization.
The police recently revealed that a suicide bomber, Muhammad Syarif, allegedly pledged allegiance to a branch of JAT in Cirebon after being indoctrinated by a member of the organization.
"The court process is still ongoing and we must prioritize the 'innocent until proven guilty' rule first and foremost," National Police deputy spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said.
The leader of the organization, firebrand cleric Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, is facing trial because he allegedly set up a military style training camp in Aceh.
"We have to see how the [court] process goes and see what the [court] decision will be like," he added.
He added that the police chose to focus on the acts of certain individuals belonging to the group.
A member of the group, Oman Abdurahman, allegedly indoctrinated Muhammad Syarif.
"We have not made any conclusions on the organization," Boy added.
