The government says civil servants will be given off on Friday, June 3, to supplement the national holiday for the Ascension of Christ on June 2.
Coordinating People’s Welfare Minister Agung Laksono said that the extra holiday, which would be deducted from employees’ annual leave allotments, would improve worker effectiveness and efficiency.
“Some civil servants do not fully benefit from their yearly leave quota. Leave days are moments for revitalizing, engaging in leisure and rejuvenation for the employees and their families,” Agung said.
He added that the long weekend would boost domestic tourism
“Strategic public services, such as hospitals, community health centers, fire stations, banks, and so on, will operate as usual,” Agung said, adding that work units should schedule employees according to regulations.
Agung said that the decision was agreed to by the Religious Affairs Minister, the Manpower and Transmigration Minister and the Administrative Reforms Minister.
