National Police deputy spokesperson Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said security at Juanda Airport in Surabaya was “very good”, even though there was a bomb scare at the airport on Wednesday.

Airport authorities reportedly received a threatening fax that there was a bomb on a Garuda Indonesia plane.

According to Boy, the police coordinated with airport security to guard Juanda.

“As for Juanda, we also cooperated with the Navy,” he said Wednesday.

Boy added that “internal security was very good”.

“There have been no problems. We have had good cooperation, which has allowed us to identify threats. If it were not good, we would not have known if something happened there,” he said.

A suspicious package was reportedly found at Gate 8 of the airport. The package was not a bomb but did have materials used to make a bomb.

Boy denied that the package could have been brought into the airport because security officers there were negligent.

“We have to check what had happened first,” he said.
