Indosiar laid-off workers report directors to Jakarta Police

Seventeen workers from Indosiar media company reported their CEO Handoko, director Triyandi Suyatman, and human resources division manager Dudi Ruhendi to the Jakarta Police for halting salary distribution despite the perceived lack of a legal basis.

“We reported them on May 18, 2011. This is the first questioning phase. Currently, Sekar [Indosiar Workers’ Union] chair Dicky Irawan is being questioned,” Sekar secretary-general Yandri Silitonga said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The dispute between PT Indosiar Visual Mandiri began when the company laid off around 300 of its employees between January to March last year.
“Twenty-two [laid off employees] reported [to the Industrial Relations Court] but only 17 are still persisting,” Yandri said.

Indosiar won the case in the court, but the workers then filed an appeal to the Supreme Court.

Yandri said the Supreme Court was yet to issue an official decision, but Indosiar issued a statement quoting a document downloaded from the Supreme Court website to announce that starting March 28, 2011 the company was no longer obliged to pay the employee’s wages or medical expenses.

“The website said the court decided to reject our charges (March 28, 2011), but on the bottom part of the website it is mentioned that the content was merely indication of the case’s current situation.

For authentic information on the decision, please access the court’s authentic document,” he said.
An Indosiar spokesman declined to comment on the issue, saying he would speak “later”.
