fire destroyed dozens of houses on Jl. Jembatan Lima in Tambora, West
Jakarta, at around 2 a.m. on Monday, Jakarta Police says.
A press release issued by Jakarta Police on Monday says it took 21
fire trucks to put out the fire that was burning until 5.30 a.m.
Two residents suffered severe injuries when they fell from the roofs of houses while trying to help firemen put out the fire.
One man was almost beaten up by residents after he was seen allegedly attempting to steal a television during the blaze.
A police officer was able to intercept the attack and rescued the man from the angry residents.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
