Megawati formally greets SBY in Pancasila Day speech

Former president Megawati Soekarnoputri greeted her old political rival and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during ceremony held to commemorate Pancasila Day in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“Your Excellency, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono…,” Megawati began her speech.

Many guests at the event held at the House of Representatives building were seen smiling at Megawati's gesture and mention of Yudhoyono.

The President and his wife Ani Yudhoyo also nodded and smiled in response to the greeting.

Relations between Megawati and Yudhoyono have been strained in a number of past incidents.

Tensions were initially reported when Yudhoyono resigned from a ministerial post he held in Megawati's Cabinet in 2004, and challenged her in the 2004 presidential race.

Since then, both leaders have rarely been seen attending the same state events and have never talked to each other.
