Anti-terror squad open to audit: police chief

National Police Chief Gen. Timur Pradopo says anti-terror unit Detachment 88 is open to every inspection to ensure that
the squad complies with the law while carrying out its duties.
“We are open to any assessment made by a third party to make sure
that the unit violates no law. If it is later found that the unit
violated rules, then of course we will not hesitate in imposing
sanctions,” Timur said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
The statement came in response to a report issued by Setara
Institute, a human rights NGO, which
highlighted the possibility that the anti-terror unit might have violated regulations in the line of duty.
Setara Institute, for example, demanded a thorough explanation of the
death of Nur Iman, a food seller, during the shootout between
the unit and terrorism suspects in Sukoharjo, Central Java, several
weeks ago.
