Deputy Agriculture Minister Bayu Krisnamurthi said an E. coli bacteria infection was not likely to hit Indonesia because the country did not import vegetables from Europe.
Even though if there were imports, he added, the long travel time between Indonesia and Europe would ensure the bacteria died off.
So far, 23 people are known to have died in an E. coli outbreak in Europe that started in Germany. (fem)
