Govt wants better pay for migrant workers in Malaysia

The government is proposing to Malaysia’s authority on migrant workers to introduce a regulation that would set 600 ringgit (US$198.80) as the minimum pay for workers from Indonesia.
“Malaysia does not have a minimum wage law. 600 ringgit is the minimum, we are hoping Malaysia would allow 700,” Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said.
If Malaysia keeps insisting on paying domestic workers less than 600 ringgit, then Indonesia will stop sending workers to Malaysia, he said.
“If they do not want to pay the amount we proposed, then they must not employ Indonesians,” Muhaimin said. (fem)
