Bali, Jakarta top contributors of dengue fever cases
Bali and Jakarta have been the first and second largest contributors, respectively, of the national dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) cases in 2010, an official said Sunday.
“Jakarta is the second-largest contributor of the (national) DHF cases, while Indonesia is in top place internationally,” Jakarta Health Agency head Dien Herawati said during an event to commemorate the ASEAN Day of Dengue Fever at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta.
Citing data from the Health Ministry, she said Jakarta recorded a total of 18,006 DHF cases throughout 2010, with an incident rate of 202.4 cases per 100,000 people.
The figure is far below the national target of 150 cases per 100,000 people, Dien added.
She said she hoped the public would take part in campaigns to prevent DHF, as the government could not do it alone, kompas.com reported.
